The Role of Antioxidants: Russ D'HommeDieu, DPT
Antioxidants are the chemical compounds that plants use to protect themselves from the effects of sunlight, predators or poisons. Essentially they help the plant survive in a very difficult environment. When we eat anti-oxidants we are getting the benefits of those natural medications, or defense mechanisms.
I find it exciting to learn scientists are now looking at anti-oxidants and how they can be used them as medical treatments. They are discovering that I ant-oxidants can be help limit the damage caused by any flu-based virus.
I think the more plant-based, natural medications that we use, we will all be of better off in the long run. These are honest to goodness, occurring in nature compounds that can be of absolute benefit to us. I have a feeling that the cure of just about any ill that falls to human beings can be found in nature. We just have to look for it.
