Jim Isaacson is an avid bike rider. In fact, even when he was in terrible pain with hemorrhoids he wouldn’t stop cycling. “I am not very good about shutting down so even with the bleeding I still would go on my rides,” says Jim.

"The PPH hemorrhoids treatment works by operating inside the anal canal as opposed to operating on the surface of the skin, where there are a lot of nerve fibers", explains Dr. Glenn Parker, gastroenterologist of Jersey Shore University Medical Center. Hemorrhoids are inflamed veins found in the anal canal. It becomes a significant problem when the tissue enlarges and descends downward into the canal. "In this hemorrhoids treatment we’re removing a portion of the blood supply and the top part of the hemorrhoids. By doing that we are drawing the hemorrhoids which are outside back to its correct anatomic position", says Dr. Parker.

Using a special stapling device, the PPH procedure essentially lifts up or repositions the tissue and reduces blood flow to the internal hemorrhoids. These internal hemorrhoids then typically shrink within four to six weeks after the hemorrhoids treatment. "Patients who have the disease who have been suffering, no longer have to suffer in silence", says Dr. Parker. Jim is reaping the rewards from the hemorrhoids treatment. He’s able to enjoy playing with his children and he’s back on the road. "I did ride my bike after 3 weeks. It’s really been a good thing for me", says Jim.

 A person may be more likely to get hemorrhoids as they age or if their parents had them. Pregnant women often get hemorrhoids because of the strain from carrying the baby and from giving birth. Being over weight can make hemorrhoids worse and suffering from constipation puts you at a higher risk for developing them. The PPH hemorrhoids treatment helps patients get rid of the painful condition, enabling them to indulge in whatever physical activity they choose.
