This is another real breakthrough study in the field of regenerative medicine and stem cell therapy. It really shows the power of stem cell treatments, especially those with disc injuries. There are so many people in America who have disc herniation or degenerative disc disease who undergo spinal surgery. And this study shows that in the very near future we will actually be taking stem cells from a person’s body and injecting them into their discs - re-growing and repairing their disc. This has real relevance for patients today. This yeary we are beginning to do this exact type of therapy, where we are taking people’s own body fat, spinning it down and extracting the stem cells and re-injecting them back into the patient’s disc. And this is showing amazing results. This study is just confirming what we are seeing in real world practice.
I have patients getting treatments with PRP (platelet rich plasma) intra discal injection who get great results. They were very difficult patients who had everything wrong with them and got no results, but got good results from the PRP treatments. And now with adding stem cells, it is going to be awesome.
