There is no one treatment for brain cancer and brain cancer treatment depends on various factors, including a patients general health, age, the type of tumor, stage and size. Treatment options are typically decided upon after on-going consultations between a team of specialists including oncologists, neurosurgeons and health care providers. Cervical cancer is the second leading cause of cancer-related deaths in women worldwide. Approximately 471,000 new cases and 288,000 deaths of cervical cancer are reported annually. Rehabilitation is necessary after treatment for esophageal cancer. Follow-up care with your medical provider is important. It may be necessary to have additional tests done after treatment to check for cancer recurrence or spread (metastasis) as well as manage side effects. As with all cancer, research on esophageal cancer continues. Genetic research is working to identify the exact cellular changes occurring within the esophagus cause the cancer. Once identified, the goal of the research is to develop targeted therapies to be used in treatment. Targeted therapies are those chemotherapeutic drugs that decrease the blood flow to the tumor or interrupt the cell processes to control growth and metastasis (spread).

The exact cause of colon and rectal cancers is not known. To date, the best preventative measure is regular screening. For those with no personal or family history of colon cancer, screening should begin at age 50. Those with higher risk of developing the cancers should begin screening sooner. Regular screening can find polyps before they become cancerous. Polyps can then be removed and colon and rectal cancers avoided completely.

While a single cause of colon and rectal cancer has not been identified, many factors that increase the risk of getting the cancer are known. Factors that increase the risk of developing a certain illness are called risk factors. It is important to understand that risk factors simply identify those substances or behaviors that increase the risk of developing an illness. Some individuals who have had no exposure to any risk factors will develop the illness anyway. And some individuals who have been exposed to many risk factors may not develop the illness at all. Once colon or rectal cancer is diagnosed, the physician will want to determine how extensive the cancer is and whether or not the cancer has spread (metastasized). This careful evaluation of the extent and location of cancer is called Staging. Staging may involve more tests, but it is required for the physician to determine the best way to treat the cancer.
