Brain cancer is the umbrella term given to more than 100 different types of tumors. Certain types of brain tumors are more common in children while others are prevalent in adults. A brain tumor can block the flow of CSF (cerebrospinal fluid)--resulting in an over-accumulation of CSF, which increases pressure on the cranium. This leads to symptoms such as headaches, vomiting and nausea. Brain tumors are also liable to compress brain tissue and damage important neurological pathways.

In the early stages esophageal cancer may go unnoticed. Usually, the disease is diagnosed when the cancer has spread (metastasized) to surrounding tissues and distant body sites. The first symptom usually experienced is difficulty swallowing. At first, the difficulty swallowing is only noticed with solid foods. Difficulty swallowing results from the narrowing of the esophagus due to the presence of the tumor. Usually after a period of weeks problems develop with the swallowing of soft foods as well as liquids due to growth of the tumor.

There are a number of medical tests used to diagnose colon and rectal cancer. These tests begin with routine physical examinations. A routine physical exam includes palpation (touches and inspects) of the abdomen for any painful areas and inspection for masses (lumps or tumors). A rectal examination includes testing the feces for blood with a fecal occult blood test (FOB) and palpating for masses. The rectal exam may reveal a mass in the rectum but would not test for the presence of colon cancer.
