Dr. Marc Bessler is the Director of Laparoscopic Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, and the Director of its Obesity Surgery Center. His clinical specialties include: the surgical management of morbid obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease, laparoscopic surgery of the stomach, esophagus and hernia surgery, and natural orifice surgery. A Cum Laude graduate of Yeshiva University, Dr. Bessler attended Medical School at New York University, and completed his general surgery residency at Columbia University Medical Center. Since 1991 he has completed further training in Laparoscopic surgery, and completed a Fellowship in Endoscopic Surgery at the University of Southern California. Dr. Bessler has continued training in both vertical banded gastroplasty and Gastric bypass. A member of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Bessler is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Bessler is also the recipient for several awards including the Blakemore Award for Surgical Research in both 1992 and 1993, and the Blakemore Price for Excellence in Surgical Research in 1996.
