Marc Bessler, MD

Dr. Marc Bessler is the Director of Laparoscopic Surgery at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center, and the Director of its Obesity Surgery Center. His clinical specialties include: the surgical management of morbid obesity, gastroesophageal reflux disease, laparoscopic surgery of the stomach, esophagus and hernia surgery, and natural orifice surgery.

A Cum Laude graduate of Yeshiva University, Dr. Bessler attended Medical School at New York University, and completed his general surgery residency at Columbia University Medical Center. Since 1991 he has completed further training in Laparoscopic surgery, and completed a Fellowship in Endoscopic Surgery at the University of Southern California. Dr. Bessler has continued training in both vertical banded gastroplasty and Gastric bypass.

A member of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Bessler is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Bessler is also the recipient for several awards including the Blakemore Award for Surgical Research in both 1992 and 1993, and the Blakemore Price for Excellence in Surgical Research in 1996.

William B. Inabnet, MD

Dr. Inabnet is an Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and the Chief of the Endocrine Surgery Section at Columbia University Medical Center. His clinical specialties include: minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery, laparoscopic adrenal and pancreatic surgery, and laparoscopic bariatric surgery.

Completing his Undergraduate and Medical School work at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, Dr. Inabent went to a residency at St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Inabnet also completed a fellowship in Surgical Endocrinology at Cochin Hospital, in Paris, France in 1997.

A member of the American Board of Surgery, Dr. Inabnet has been Assistant Professor of Surgery at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, and an Instructor of Surgery at Rush Medical College in Chicago. He has been the recipient of a host of Awards throughout his professional career, including NY magazines Top 100 Laprosopic Surgeons in 2002, and the American Registry, Top American Surgical Specialists, 2002 & 2003.

His professional memberships include: the American College of Surgeons, American Society for Bariatric Surgery, and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity.

Beth A. Schrope, MD, PhD

Dr. Schrope is an Assistant Professor, Department of Surgery at Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, and an Attending Physician, Division of General Surgery NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia University Medical Center. Her clinical specialties include: upper gastrointestinal surgery, robotic general surgery, obesity surgery, and laparoscopy.

Dr. Schropes distinguished educational started with at John Hopkins University with a BS in Biomedical Engineering, which she then went on to receive a PhD in from Drexel University. Dr. Schrope received her Medical Degree from Temple University, and completed a general surgery residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital/Columbia Medical Center. She is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery.

Dr. Schrope is a member of the American Society for Bariatric Surgery.
