Dr. Jean-Claude Bystryn, MD's illustrious career in dermatological research and practice spans 40-plus years.

After completing his MD at the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Bystryn began a lifelong professional affiliation with his alma mater. His post-graduate training includes a residency in dermatology and a research fellowship in immunology, both of which were completed at the NYU School of Medicine. Dr. Bystryn began teaching for the school’s department of dermatology in 1970 and continues to do so today.

Dr. Bystryn has been board certified by both the American Board of Dermatology and the American Board of Immunodermatopathology. He has received numerous honors and awards throughout his career, such as the Husik Prize in Dermatology, the Irma T. Hirschl Career Scientist Award and the American Skin Association’s Vitiligo Research Award. Dr. Bystryn has served as chairman of many national and international conferences, including the Sixth, Seventh and Eighth World Congresses on Cancers of the Skin. He is also a member of more than a dozen professional societies.

In addition to teaching and practicing medicine, Dr. Bystryn has published prolifically over the years on a broad range of dermatological issues. He has reviewed for many medical journals, including the Journal of the American Medical Association, the Journal of the Academy of Dermatology and the Journal of the European Dermatological Society. Today, Dr. Bystryn maintains major academic and clinical responsibilities at the NYU School of Medicine. He is also a visiting dermatologist at Bellevue Hospital Center.
