The rotator cuff muscles are important in shoulder movements and in maintaining glenohumeral joint (shoulder joint) stability. These muscles arise from the scapula and connect to the head of the humerus, forming a cuff at the shoulder joint. They hold the head of the humerus in the small and shallow glenoid fossa of the scapula. The glenohumeral jointhas been analogously described as a golf ball (head of the humerus) sitting on a golf tee.

Over the years, Dr. Pollock has completed impressive medical training, which has given him the expertise necessary to treat a wide range of symptoms and disorders. After receiving his medical degree from Columbia University in 1985, Dr. Pollock completed two years of general surgery at the Roosevelt Hospital in New York. He then completed a residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the New York Orthopaedic Hospital at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center and a Fellowship in Shoulder Surgery at Columbia-Presbyterian. Dr. Pollock is presently an Assistant Professor of Clinical Orthopaedic Surgery at Columbia University and performs surgery at New York Presbyterian Hospital (Columbia campus) and the Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, New Jersey.
