The laser treatment is a minimally invasive treatment that is conducted in- office and serves as an alternative to surgical stripping and other more complicated procedures. Instead of removing the saphenous vein, it is sealed and closed in its place and later reabsorbed by the body. Local anesthesia is used to numb the leg and a small laser fiber is inserted into the damaged vein. Light pulse energy is then used to collapse and seal the vein and cure it of its previous disposition. The procedure is relatively quick and patients can walk right after.
