David's Reimplantation Procedure


Conventional aortic surgery either calls for a synthetic replacement of the aorta, or a transplant. Each has disadvantages; the synthetic replacement requires that patients intake anticoagulants for the rest of their lives, while the aortic transplant breaks down over time requiring repeat surgery every ten years. By using a valve sparing aortic root replacement, also known as a David’s Reimplantation procedure, Dr. Stewart can avoid these complications for you and your loved ones. This is considered by many surgeons to be a complex and difficult procedure; thankfully since 2005 the Columbia University Medical Center has preformed over 60 of these procedures with no mortalities and no serious complications.
