In the past, aortic surgery required that the aorta be replaced with a synthetic graft or with a natural tissue replacement graft. The use of artificial replacement meant that patients would need to regularly take blood for the rest of their lives. Even though using natural replacement tissue doesn't require blood thinners the natural tissue is likely to slowly degenerate to the point where repeat surgery will be needed within 10 years. Dr. Stewart's treatment allows him to repair without replacing the valve, freeing the patient from a lifetime of compromises, complications and adjustments.

- Aortic root reconstruction - including homograft procedures, valve sparing root replacement, and mechanical valve conduits
