FSH causes the eggs in the ovaries to develop and mature while LH causes the woman to ovulate, or release an egg. Infertility can occur if there is a problem with the release of any of these hormones. Fertility medications help to balance the system so that a woman can conceive. Clomiphene is a medication that causes GnRH to be released from the hypothalamus so that it can stimulate the release of FSH and LH. Another type of medication actually contains FSH and can be used to help the eggs in the ovaries mature. Each woman should be evaluated carefully in order to determine the proper balance of fertility medication.
