Fertility Medications Westchester New York

If you've been longing for a baby, the inability to get pregnant may be very upsetting. You've been to doctors, you've tried ovulation monitors, and you may even be considering fertility treatments. Dr. Andrew Silverman, MD, PhD in Westchester, New York offers an array of services for those people unable to conceive. The fertility medications available at the Silverman Center have given many couples the joy of having a little girl or a little boy.

In order to conceive an egg from the woman, it must be released from the ovary so that it may be fertilized by sperm. During a woman's cycle, a substance called Gonadotropin Releasing Hormone, or GnRH is released from a part of the brain called the hypothalamus. GnRH then acts on the pituitary gland, causing it to release Luteinizing Hormone, or LH, and Follicle Stimulating Hormone, or FSH. FSH helps the eggs, stored in the woman's ovaries, to develop. LH then causes the ovaries to release an egg. Eggs can only be fertilized by sperm after they have left the ovary so when this system is not working correctly, a woman may have difficulties with conception. Fertility drugs can help. A drug called Clomid, or clomiphene citrate, can actually cause the hypothalamus to release GnRH. The GnRH can then stimulate the pituitary to release FSH and LH, ultimately leading to ovulation, or the release of an egg from the ovary. This and other medications, including lupron, human chorionic gonadotropin, and progesterone have helped many women to overcome difficulties with conception.

Dr. Silverman, who has a doctorate in Microbiology in addition to his Medical Degree has over 20 years of experience in the field of fertility medicine. He has been prominently featured in the media, including Channel 5, Channel 7 Eyewitness News, the New York Times, and the New York Daily News.
