The effects of scoliosis can leave sufferers ashamed and in pain if left untreated. Seek expert relief from a specialist. Located in Fairfield County, CT at Associates in Family Chiropractic, Dr. Risa Sloves, DC has been providing treatment for scoliosis for sixteen years.
Dr. Sloves received her Doctorate in Chiropractic from the National College of Chiropractic and has obtained an advanced post-doctorate degree in treating children and women. She is Board Certified and has earned a Diplomate of the International Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics. In addition she is a member of the Scoliosis Care Foundation as well as an active member in numerous professional organizations such as the International Council on Chiropractic Pediatrics and the Connecticut Chiropractic Council.
Scoliosis affects both children and adults and is caused by the spine becoming irregularly curved. The spine adopts an S or C shape, which results in the body's muscles trying to conform to this shape. As the muscles conform, they cause unnatural pressure on the nerves in the spine creating irritable pain and sometimes deformity in the body. Some symptoms of scoliosis include uneven hip or shoulder levels and asymmetrical muscles on either side of the body.
The first step in Dr. Sloves advanced treatment is locating and identifying the subluxations in the patient's spine. Subluxations are points where the spinal vertebrae have become misaligned. These misalignments are what lead to problems and pain in the body. After proper observation, Dr. Sloves, will then develop an individual treatment plan that aims to correct these subluxations using advanced techniques and care.
Some of the treatments provided by Associates in Family Chiropractic are:
- Spinal Decompression
- Spinal manipulation
- Electrical Muscle Stimulation
