Each embryo contains 46 rod like packages called chromosomes which carry DNA. Half of the chromosomes come from the mother, stored in the egg, while half comes from the father, carried by his sperm. A pair of chromosomes called the sex chromosomes determine the gender of the embryo. Males embryos have an X chromosome paired with a Y chromosome, while female embryos have two X chromosomes. The sperm, which carries either an X or a Y chromosome, determines the gender, while the egg completes the pair with an X chromosome. Dr. Silverman uses two proven methods of gender selection, the Ericsson method and a technique called Pre-Implantation Genetic Diagnosis, giving parents the power to provide gender balance to their families.
