Andrew Silverman, M.D., Ph.D.

Dr. Andrew Silverman began developing interest in reproductive health issues and reproductive endocrinology after concurrently completing his Doctorate in Microbiology as well as finishing medical school at the State University of New York in Buffalo. A year as a medical intern at the University of Michigan would further hone his skills, and he went on to be selected as a research associate for the National Cancer Institute for the National Institutes of Health.

After concluding his residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Texas in San Antonio, he decided to seek additional subspecialty training in reproductive endocrinology. This would lead to his Directorship of the In Vitro Fertilization program at the University of Texas.

1984 ushered in a move to New York where Dr. Silverman set up private practice in Manhattan and Westchester for IVF and was responsible for the first In Vitro pregnancy outside of a University Hospital unit. In 1987, Dr. Silverman began to take interest in the work of Dr. Ronald J. Ericsson, PhD on gender selection which he studied at great length. He began to offer the Ericsson Method child sex selection. Thousands of couples have been given a much greater chance of choosing the sex of their baby.

Currently, Dr. Silverman offers his patients In Vitro Fertilization with preimplantation genetic diagnosis which can analyze an embryo to determine if genetic diseases are likely due to the presence of abnormal chromosomes. Through a simple biopsy and analysis, Dr. Silverman can be sure to transfer embryos of the desired sex or free from genetic defect.
