Gastric Bypass/ LAP-BAND Surgery NYC

Bariatric surgery has helped many obese and overweight people lose weight. LAP-BAND surgery and Gastric Bypass surgery are two very effective methods that have facilitated weight loss for many individuals of poor health. The Beth Israel Medical Center of NYC has performed a countless number of successful procedures under the guidance of Dr. John L. Holup, DO who is highly experienced.

The two main types of Bariatric Surgery offered at the Beth Israel Medical Center are Gastric Bypass and LAP-BAND surgery. LAP-BAND is the least invasive weight loss surgery that exists today. The process involves surgeons implanting an inflatable ring in the top part of the stomach. The ring can be controlled with an injectable saline solution that allows doctors to adjust the rate at which patients lose weight. If the process is successful, patients can expect to lose 50% of their weight over a period of three to four years. Once the desired weight is lost, the ring can be removed. Gastric bypass surgery is a more invasive surgery but can produce greater and faster results. Approximately two thirds of a person's stomach is removed from the digestive system. Patients can expect to lose up to 75% of their body weight in a shorter period of time. Once the operation is complete, reversal is almost impossible.

Some of the health conditions related with obesity include:

- Type 2 Diabetes
- High Blood pressure or Heart Disease
- Osteoarthritis
- Sleep Apnea or Respiratory complications
- Heartburn
- Depression
- Infertility
- Urinary problems
- And More
