Dr. Legato is part of the Women's Heart Foundation, an international gathering of nurse executives, civic leaders, community health directors, member hospitals, partners, providers and corporate sponsors who want something done to fight women's heart disease. Dr. Legato is a world-renowned specialist in women's health and founded and directed the Partnership for Gender-Specific Medicine at Columbia University. She is a devout researcher on the relationship between women and heart disease, winning the American Heart Association's Blakeslee Award for best book on cardiovascular disease. She is also the founder and editor of the Journal of Gender-Specific Medicine. She is a recipient of numerous awards and accolades for her work, including the Woman in Science Award from the American Medical Women's association.
