Osteoarthritis Hip Resurfacing

Osteoarthritis Hip Resurfacing White Plains, New York

Looking for an alternative to total hip replacement? For some patients, there is now the option of hip resurfacing, and when performed by experts like those at Lawrence Hospital Center Orthopedics & Sports Medicine near White Plains, New York, you can get your freedom and mobility back.

Unlike traditional hip replacement, hip resurfacing doesn't require removing the "ball" of the hip (femoral head) and replacing it with a metal or ceramic ball. Instead, the damaged hip ball is reshaped and capped with a metal prosthesis. Resurfacing creates a bigger hip ball than is generally used in hip replacement, which may reduce the risk of dislocation. In addition, the damaged hip socket (acetabulum) is fitted with a metal prosthesis - similar to what is used in hip replacement. Not everyone is a good candidate for hip resurfacing. Hip resurfacing is not recommended for people with osteoporosis - due to an increased risk of fracture of the femur.

At Lawrence Hospital Center, the entire surgery from the first incision to final closure of the joint is performed and overseen by experienced surgeons who care about getting you moving without pain again. To find out if you're a candidate for hip resurfacing surgery, contact Lawrence Hospital Center Orthopedics & Sports Medicine near White Plains, New York.
