Scoliosis affects both children and adults and is caused by the spine becoming irregularly curved. The spine adopts an S or C shape, which results in the body's muscles trying to conform to this shape. As the muscles conform, they cause unnatural pressure on the nerves in the spine creating irritable pain and sometimes deformity in the body. Some symptoms of scoliosis include uneven hip or shoulder levels and asymmetrical muscles on either side of the body.
