He came to the United States in 1990 to study at the Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn and stayed in New York City to complete his research fellowship at Columbia University. Later he became the Chief of Bariatric Surgery at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx. In addition to his position at Beth Israel, he now serves on the Surgical Faculty at Albert Einstein Medical College of Medicine.
