About Us
Dr. Howard J. Luks, MD-Chief of Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy
Dr. Howard J. Luks, MD is the Chief of Sports Medicine & Arthroscopy at Westchester Medical Center and New York Medical College. He is also an attending Orthopaedic Surgeon at Westchester Medical Center, concentrated in sports medicine and arthroscopy. He is an Assistant Professor in both the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and the Department of Medicine at New York Medical College. He was a Guest Lecturer in Pharmacology and an Instructor in Anatomy and Histology at New York Medical College.
Dr. Luks attained his undergraduate degree from Muhlenberg College and finished his medical degree at New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York. He completed his Residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at the Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Afterwards, he finished his Sports Medicine Fellowship at the Hospital for Joint Diseases.
Dr. Luks has a specialty in Orthopaedic Surgery and is licensed by the State of New York. He has written numerous books, research papers and is a guest lecturer on: arthroscopic rotor cuff repairs, multi-ligament knee injuries, shoulder joint disorders and more. Dr. Luks is also one of the few doctors in New York, and perhaps the only doctor in Hudson Valley, performing the Double Bundle ACL reconstruction for instability of the knee. He was awarded the William Cullen Bryant Award and the Surgical Society Award by New York Medical College. He is also the recipient of the Cor et Manus, an Award for Distinction, and the Alfred Schwartz, MD Memorial Award for academic excellence. He is affiliated as a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He served on the OR Committee at Westchester Medical Center and the Curriculum Committee at New York Medical College.
Dr. Luks gained Third Year Honors in Surgery, Medicine and Pediatrics and Second Year Honors in Pathology, Pharmacology and Clinical Medicine. He was hand-picked by his colleagues to present research project at the national American Association for Cancer Research meeting. |
