I think it is very promising that they have discovered this good fat or brown fat that expends more energy than the white fat. The layman knows that some thin people seem to be able to eat all they want and yet somehow remain thin. And thus it is interesting that they have proven this in essence that the phenomenon does exits.
I think it is also very promising that a lot of treatment options are being though about and developed for morbid obesity -which is defined as 100 pounds over ideal body weight - at the molecular level. In this case scientists are altering white fat to the brown fat so that the patients would expend more energy – primarily in the form of heat. While such treatments are not available today, it is something they could look forward to in the future.
