MRI Scan

An MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) scan is the most popularly used diagnostic test to diagnose brain cancers. It involves using electromagnetic waves to capture in-depth images of the brain from multiple angles. An MRI can also effectively detect hemorrhages (bleeding) and edemas (brain tissue swellings).

CT Scan

Biopsy

A brain tumor biopsy is the best way to accurately diagnose a tumor. In this surgical procedure, a small sample of a tissue is removed and sent for analysis to a laboratory. A pathologist identifies abnormal cell growth, grades the type of tumor and determines its stage. Biopsies, as are all surgical procedures, have a certain element of risk (3%). Infections, hemorrhaging and blood clots are complications that can result.
