Prostate Cancer Chemotherapy
If you’ve been diagnosed with prostate cancer, and feel you are being pressured into prostate cancer chemotherapy, consider getting a second opinion from Cancer Treatment Centers of America. In some extreme cases (such as when your cancer has metastasized to the bone or spread to other organs), it may be the only viable prostate cancer therapy, but it should only be considered as a last resort. There are many prostate cancer treatments available at the CTCA including immunotherapy, hormone therapy, prostate cancer surgery and radiation. In addition, you can include specialists in nutrition management, pain management, naturopathic medicine and spiritual support as a part of your multidisciplinary recovery team.
If your cancer has evolved to advanced stages, and chemotherapy is only the recommended course of action, we offer three different forms of chemotherapy.
- Systemic Chemotherapy: This is administered orally or injected into a vein or muscle. Because it goes through the bloodstream, it can reach cancer cells throughout the body. This approach is helpful when cancer has spread beyond a localized point.
- Regional Chemotherapy: This therapy targets a specific area, and is delivered directly into the prostate and/or effected cells.
- Metronomic Chemotherapy: One of the major drawbacks to traditional chemotherapy is that it poisons the body as well as the cancer, often causing sever nausea and other side effects. By contrast, Metronomic Chemotherapy administers chemotherapy in small amounts over the course of several days to prolong drug levels in the blood, rather than the larger doses used in the past. This is a more humane treatment which improves the bodies tolerance and reduces side effects.
If you decide to get a second opinion from CTCA, our team will utilize an array of sophisticated diagnostic tools to access your condition and determine your prognosis. Then we will inform you of all your options, and explain exactly what is going on with your prostate cancer. You will take an active role in the decision making process, and your needs, desires and concerns will be addressed every step of the way. Together we will create a prostate cancer therapy plan that is tailored to your individual condition.
