Prostate Cancer Staging
You have heard the warnings about treating prostate cancer as soon as possible. If you have been diagnosed, and are still procrastinating prostate cancer therapy, you need to understand the critical nature of prostate cancer staging.
Prostate cancer staging quantifies how far your cancer has spread.
- Stage I: Cancer is confined to the prostate.
- Stage II: Cancer is still confined to the prostate, but cells may be abnormal and grow faster.
- Stage III: Cancer has spread to the tissues near the prostate, and possibly the seminal vesicles.
- Stage IV: Cancer has spread to other parts of the body-- commonly to the rectum, nearby pelvic lymph nodes, or bone.
- Recurrent: Cancer has returned after treatment.
Early stages of the disease can often be treated with far less invasive prostate cancer treatments such as Provenge immunotherapy, or Calypso GPS for the Body. Both of these cutting edge prostate cancer therapies are nonsurgical. The longer the disease goes unchecked, the more invasive the treatment will be.
Do you dread going to the hospital more than the effects of the disease? Not all prostate cancer centers are created equal. At CTCA we believe that patients should be empowered to play an active role in their own recovery, not shuffled around like a lab rat or treated like a disease instead of a person. We will give you the facts, treat you with respect and include you in every decision making process of your recovery. Pain management, human dignity and mental well being are cornerstones in our integrated approach to prostate cancer therapy.
