About DioGuardi & Murdock
Richard J. DioGuardi, CPA
Richard DioGuardi was born in the Arthur Avenue section of the Bronx, attending grammar school there at St. Martin of Tours until his family moved to White Plains in time to begin high school at Archbishop Stepinac. Throughout high school, Richard remained close to his Bronx roots as he helped his dad in the family grocery business located on Tremont Avenue, and even today he sits on the Advisory Board of St. Martin of Tours giving back to the community that laid the foundation for his achievements.
After high school, Richard attended Westchester Community College and later graduated with an accounting degree from Pace College. In between the time he attended Westchester C.C. and Pace, Richard took a break from school to run his dad’s business but soon found himself caught up in the military draft during the Vietnam War. After a two year stint in the U.S. Army, which took Richard through training stateside and further training and preparedness in radar school in Germany, he left the service to continue his college education. Richard graduated from Pace College in 1970 and joined one of the “Big 8” accounting firms, Arthur Young & Company, where he achieved passing the CPA exam getting his license to practice as a Certified Pubic Accountant in 1972. He remained in public accounting for another four years, joining the firm of Arthur Andersen & Co. in its tax practice and then decided to start his own accounting practice, first with a partner and later on his own. 2010 marks his 40th year in the accounting profession.
In March of 1971, Richard married Louise Olivieri, a childhood sweetheart from the age of nine, and they settled in White Plains where they raised their three children: Jennifer, Richard and Kristen. While in White Plains, Richard became involved with the YMCA of Central and Northern Westchester where he eventually was asked to serve on its Board and remained a Board member for eight years during a time of the Y’s major expansion. In 1992, Richard moved with his family to Thornwood where he soon began meeting new friends in the community leading to his joining the Mount Pleasant Italian American Association at the invitation of Mike Rovello, one of its co-founders. Richard was the MPIAA’s president in 2005 and 2006 where he took pride in carrying out his duties and responsibilities, and currently serves on its Board and Scholarship Committee. Soon after joining the MPIAA, Richard was asked to join the American Legion Gilbert Rauh Post in Thornwood where he actively contributed his time and achieved the positions of Vice Commander and Treasurer.
Richard and Louise currently live in Peekskill, NY with their youngest daughter Kristen who works in the fashion industry and currently works at an Armani flagship store in Manhattan. Richard’s son, Dr. Richard J. DioGuardi, is a Psychology Professor and department head at Iona College and has an office in White Plains where he conducts a private Psychology practice. Jennifer, Richard’s eldest, is a Nurse Practitioner and the mother of Richard’s grandson Devin. When not spending time with his work, family and community activities, Richard could be found fishing in Long Island Sound between Niantic CT and Montauk Point for striped bass and blue fish.
