Uterine Cancer Survival

Uterine cancer is the most common cancer of the female reproductive system in the United States. The American Cancer Institute estimates that, in the year 2010, the cancer affected more than 35,000 women and caused the deaths of nearly 6,000 women in the U.S. Uterine cancer is more common among white women in the developed nations than women of other races and its incidence rate is directly proportional to the age of a patient—women over the age of 50 are at greater risk than younger women.
Survival rate means the percentage of women who are able to survive the disease after the passage of a considerable number of years. Uterine cancer survival depends on a number of factors, including the age and general health of the patient, the type of uterine cancer, its grade and stage.
Uterine cancer is calibrated in four stages: stage I, II, III and IV. These stages are further graded into A, B and C types. Stages I and II have a higher survival rate as the disease is typically localized and can be completely destroyed.

5- year survival rates for different stages are listed below:

• Stage I (a, b and c): 92.1 percent to 82.4 percent

• Stage II (a, b and c): 51.4 percent to 69.0 percent

• Stage II (a, b and c): 17.1 percent to 39.3 percent

• Stage IV: 11.6 percent

As evident, 5-year survival rate is lowest for stage IV of the cancer. Survival rate also depends on the availability of competent professionals and appropriate medicine.
